5 top tips to stay motivated when renovating

18th Dec, 2015

You’ve invested in your new property. This may be a future family home or a stepping stone onto the property market, for whatever the purpose may be, it is likely to involve renovation.  It might be a quick repair, a makeover or a large construction project, here are our five top tips to stay motivated throughout the process.

1. Be Realistic

At times the task can seem overwhelming and you can begin to compare yourself to others. It is important to maintain realistic expectations so you don’t end up disappointed when things don’t go as smoothly as expected. Don’t compare your home to magazines and remind yourself how far you’ve come.

2. Look forward

If you’re struggling to see the end picture and your house resembles a building site, add some inspiration. Create mood boards and look through catalogues to try and imagine yourself in your new, finished space.

3. Plan Plan Plan

Making plans can help keep you on track. You can see what jobs have been completed and ones you still have to work on. Use it as a guide. Once you’ve completed every job on the list, you’ll feel a huge sense of accomplishment.

4. Stay Positive

Focus on the good, not the bad. This may seem impossible at times, but it’s vital to keep progressing. Remember why you wanted to start the project and what excited you. Whatever attracted you to the property is still there.

5. Relax

Sometimes, as much as you try, you can’t motivate yourself. This happens to a lot of us and it’s okay to feel this way. Sometimes a break can help refresh you and refocus your energy on the project. This may be taking a break over Christmas to put things back into perspective.
