Holiday mode

8th Aug, 2019

We're all probably in holiday mode already - or getting close to that stage - but is your home similarly prepared for your departure?

Now, we don't want to put a dampener on your excitement of going away to a sunny destination, but we also want to help you ensure your property is secure and safe.

So, what can you do to help protect your belongings? Here, we reveal our five top tips...

Install alarms

As a standard you should always have a house alarm system fitted. It is then obvious from the exterior one exists, which can often be a deterrent for someone planning a potential break in.

You can also smash-proof your windows by installing in an inexpensive break alarm, to add an extra layer of protection.

Invest in outdoor lighting

If you have access to your home both at the front and the back, it's a good idea to install motion sensor external lights. This will alert those around you when someone is on your land - especially if you're not in - and it may encourage them to check up on your property.

Set up timers

Similarly, if you're worried about your house while you're away, it's a good idea to set up various timers for lights to go on and off at particular times. From the outside world, it will appear as though you never left.

Tell a neighbour

A few days before going away, tell a neighbour, family member or friend that you're leaving for holidays - and when you're due home. That way, they can keep an eye on things for you, and it may give you extra piece of mind that things are being looked after.

If you don't let people know, any suspicious activity won't be reported as they are likely to simply believe it is you.

Check everything

Finally, before heading off to the airport, do a final check around your property. Ensure nothing valuable has been left out and on show, shut all of your windows, make sure timers are set up and all doors are locked.

We want you to fully enjoy your time away - no doubt you've worked very hard for it throughout the year - and you deserve to relax. Putting in place these simple tasks will help you to unwind, knowing you've done everything you can to protect your home and belongings.
