Summer gardens

5th Jul, 2019

We talk about gardens a lot, because as well as being an important aspect to your home - they can be the make or break when it comes to selling up - they're also a popular space to spend time in during the summer months.

We've had some wonderful weather recently, and, what better way to make the most of it, than to sit in your outdoor area?

Whether you use it as a safe playground for your children, or a social hub for BBQ's, we have some helpful tips on how to utilise all of your outdoor world!

Shrubbery

Tall bushes surrounding the edges of your garden not only look beautiful and provide security, but they also offer you privacy from other neighbouring properties. However, it is very easy for them to become out of control and intrude on your space, so it's important to keep on top of pruning them.

This is especially important if you have a small area!

Patios and decking

The majority of us will have some form of decking or patio providing a nice flat area in which to sit and enjoy the sunshine -- if you don't, now may be a great time to invest in some!

Or, clean up what you currently have and bring it back to life with a pressure washer. You can also use the nice weather as an opportunity to replace broken flagstones or paving, too. If your decking is looking a little worn or outdated, think about re-staining it -- grey is a popular colour at the moment.

Lighting and warmth

The days are longer and warmer throughout the summer, but as your BBQs may tend to go on long after the sun has gone down, you'll want to keep your space illuminated and your guests warm.

There is a huge variety of outdoor lighting nowadays -- little LEDs to put down pathways, wall fixings and even weatherproof 'fairy lights' -- so you're bound to find something to fit with your garden décor.

Electric heaters, log burners and fire pits are the perfect source of heat when the nights get cooler.

Furniture

If you can't afford any new outdoor furniture, clean up your old items -- it's amazing what a good scrub can do!

Or, if you're wanting to push the boat out, there are some fabulous sofas and chairs now available on the market.

Plants and grass

Now you have all of the fundamentals in place, it's time to make your space look pretty with beautiful flowers and plants. And what's more inviting than luscious green grass?

We hope that these steps will help you to get your garden in tip-top shape -- whether to impress family and friends or give you something nice to look at -- for the summer months!
