Everything you need to know about Holmfirth

Posted on Tuesday, June 2, 2020

From the exciting bars, delicious restaurants and unique shops, to the stunning countryside and beautiful walks, some might say that Holmfirth really has it all!

In fact, it’s such a great destination that thousands of tourists visit every year – sometimes to put on their hiking boots, and others to learn about some of the iconic TV shows based in our town.

So, whilst we continue to find out what life will be like in the ‘new normal’, we want you to enjoy everything Holmfirth has to offer. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, this quick guide will help you discover hidden gems within the village – and ensure you make the most of your time here when you eventually stop by!

Bars

Although things may look a little different at the moment, you can’t escape the classy cocktail spots, stylish wine bars and craft beer pubs dotted all over Holmfirth. We’re looking forward to the reopening of Magic Rock Tap, for its trendy atmosphere. If you’ve never been, it’s ideal for those of you who love traditional, locally brewed craft beer. If you’re a cocktail kind of person, Harvey’s Bar and Kitchen will be the perfect place for you! With a wide-ranging choice of concoctions – including vodka, rum, gin and whiskey – there is something to suit everyone’s taste buds.

Alternatively, when we’re safe to do so, we can’t wait to revisit Oscars Café and Wine Bar for one of their carefully, hand-selected wines. Holmfirth Tavern and The Postcard Inn pubs have an inviting aura, making you feel right at home. Whatever the time or occasion, there is something for all!

 Restaurants

We’ve missed the traditional Spanish tapas at Mezze, exotic curry at Bengal Spice, indulgent Italian at Poppa Piccolinos and some of the UK’s best fresh fish from Catch Seafood Restaurant during lockdown!

For those who prefer a spot of afternoon tea, the amazing Wrinkled Stocking is the place to go when you can – and be sure to turn up with an appetite!

If you’re looking to enjoy the countryside, while tasting some locally pressed wine, Holmfirth Vineyard is an idyllic venue too.

 Shops

Our local economy is so vitally important – even more than ever. And with the shops set to reopen, now might be the time to treat a friend or loved one. If it’s a Yankee Candle you’re after, The Gift House has a wide range of best-selling fragrances, and why not make choosing a card fun? With over 5,000 different designs for every occasion, we bet that if you can’t find what you’re looking for there, you won’t find it anywhere!

And sometimes, it’s nice to treat yourself – so if you love buying homeware, when you’re able to, head to Shades of China for iconic polka dot Emma Bridgwater crockery and Jamie Oliver’s home range.

If you’re more of a foodie, then Two Valleys serves great meats and is standing strong in a dwindling world of traditional, fresh-produce butchers. Their award-winning pork pies and cheeses are something you’ll want to get your teeth into, and they won’t disappoint!

 Walks

Our last stop around Holmfirth is exploring the best places for either a stroll or a long hike. The perfect short walk is around Digley Reservoir – set in approximately 1.2 miles of woodland, this is ideal for all the family! Or, if you’re looking for a trek, the Holme Valley Riverside Way walk is more challenging – it starts at Magdale and winds through the village of Holmfirth. And what better way to finish it off, than by visiting the village’s bars, restaurants and shops?

Of course, Holmfirth has plenty more to offer and it’s always worth seeing how they’re coping during this turbulent period by checking out their social pages and websites before you travel. These are just a few ideas to get you going, so make sure you pop along and see the huge variety for yourself! We are sure you won’t be disappointed!
