How to create show-stopping seasonal table designs

Posted on Thursday, November 17, 2022

No matter your approach to Christmas – whether your celebrations last the whole of December or just a single day – one thing that’s certain is food takes centre stage over the festive period.

And for those planning to go ‘big’ on the family feasting, creating a show-stopping tablescape plays a crucial role in pulling out all the right stops.

To offer some inspiration, Holmfirth estate agent, Applegate Properties, has some ideas to suit a variety of styles, themes, and budgets…

Crackers are the star of the show

Nothing says Christmas dinner quite like pulling a cracker beforehand. Not only do they tie in to a colour palette very nicely, they also offer an excuse to extend gift giving throughout the day.

Plus, there are an abundance of weird and wonderful fillings if you’re not as keen on the traditional prizes – from gins and chocolates, to pet-friendly toys and treats. Or, why not consider making your own?

With more and more eco-friendly alternatives cropping up on the market too, you can even shop more sustainability and be confident that your festive fun won’t result in masses of landfill additions.

Source eco-friendly alternatives

Christmas crackers and keepsake gifts aren’t the only way to add a ‘greener’ touch to your dining room design.

From bamboo tableware sets, to biodegradable plates and compostable runners, there are so many options to bolster a more sustainable impact.

After all, the festive period is a time for giving. So, why not use the opportune moment to give back to our planet?

Add statement foliage

Bringing the outdoors in doesn’t have to stop with a tree or wreath. If you’re looking for ideas to extend your country interior to your merry table setting, draping seasonal evergreens and winter blooms can be a very tasteful tactic.

The key is to not make things too precious or pruned. Instead, you want it to look like you’ve foraged the freshest produce and laid it straight onto the table – whether it’s fir, pine cones, ivy, dried orange, or anything in between.

For the perfect centrepiece, you can even arrange your greenery around a statement candle – a very warm and inviting touch!

Tap into personal place gifts

Place settings at formal gatherings are commonplace, to enhance the sense of occasion. So, why not differentiate yours by including a tailor-made gift? It doesn’t have to anything extravagant, either.

If you’re having drinks before dinner, or are welcoming guests in the dining room, consider attaching handmade name tags to glassware. As well as helping to identify different items, they’re a great way to make people feel more special and welcome in your home.

Or, if you want to up the ante of your party favours, you could even add an individualised bauble, chocolate, or Christmas hat at each place.

Make a statement from above

We love a striking centrepiece here at Holmfirth estate agent Applegate Properties, but know that it can be difficult to find the space to make a meaningful impact too.

But statements don’t just have to be made on the table. Consider hanging some festive decor above, from a ceiling light for example – both saving space for your Christmas spread and adding a new dimension to your merry tablescape.

We’d love to see the show-stopping seasonal table designs you’ve come up with this Christmas. Why not send us a picture on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter?
