Privileged to be an estate agents in Holmfirth, we’re graced with some of the most breath-taking scenery in the country. Within the landscape are some fantastic, quirky, and soulful businesses which we are desperate to support.
To kickstart Organic September, we have caught up with Josh from 'Carr Family Farm' who currently provides us with our organic honey for clients. Based at their home in Scholes, Holmfirth they have a number of different animals and an Honesty Box on the main Scholes Moor Road where they sell their free-range eggs from.
We caught up with Josh to ask him more about his honey and business:
Sum up your business in 100 words.
Carr Family Farm is a family run smallholding in the countryside of Holmfirth. What started out as a passion/ hobby has now turned into a small business by providing our local community with various types of natural Honey from our many bee hives and free range eggs from our flock of rare breed & rescue ducks & chickens. This is done by via our Honesty Box selling our produce on Scholes Moor Road. We also keep, horses, sheep, birds of prey, dogs, canaries & ferrets on the farm.
Tell us about your team.
Our team at Carr Family farm consists of me (Josh) My Mum (Linda), Dad (Howard), two sisters (Lindsey & Sabrina), my Nephew (Archie) and two nieces (Abbie & Ella). It's very much a family affair!
What makes your business special.
What makes our small business special is that it’s loved by our local community/ customers as much as it’s loved by us. The feedback we get is truly amazing & makes all our hard work so worth it.
What is your biggest business achievement to date.
Our biggest business achievement would probably have to be the opening of our Honesty Box on Scholes Moor Road & it actually been a success since lockdown in 2020. It’s open during daylight hours and is stocked full of our Organic honey & eggs and is truly loved by our local community.
How long has your business been going?
We’ve been doing what we do but purely as a hobby for 28 years (my whole life), but I officially started 'Carr Family Farm' in 2020 when the pandemic hit.
What is your favourite thing about living in the country?
My favourite thing about living in the countryside is definitely the abundance of nature we have on our doorstep! We feel so lucky to call this place home.
When you’re not at work where is the one place you love to visit in Holmfirth?
When I’m not on the farm, you’ll probably catch me on a nice long walk that ends at one of Holmfirths many gorgeous pubs! Or brunching at Bloc.
